Jacques Brel - "Le Moribond"

"Seasons in the Sun" is an English-language adaptation of the song "Le Moribond" by Belgian singer-songwriter Jacques Brel[1]with lyrics by American singer-poet Rod McKuen.[2] It became a worldwide hit in 1974 for Canadian singer Terry Jacks and became a Christmas Number 1 in 1999 for Westlife. Jacks's version is one of the fewer than forty all-time singles to have sold 10 million copies worldwide.
The song is a dying protagonist's farewell to relatives and friends. The protagonist mentions how hard it will be to die now that the spring season has arrived (historically, spring is portrayed as the season of new life).

Original version

The original French-language song is a sardonic ballad, in which the speaker gives backhanded farewells to his adulterous wife and her lover and the priest he disagreed with while sarcastically expressing his wish that there should be singing and dancing when he is buried. Before Jacks popularized the song, earlier recordings had been released by The Kingston Trio with the first cover version of McKuen's translation in 1963 and the British band The Fortunes in 1968.

Lal Ded

[I was passionate]
BY LAL DED
TRANSLATED BY JANE HIRSHFIELD
I was passionate,
filled with longing,
I searched
far and wide.

But the day
that the Truthful One
found me,
I was at home.

On Lalla
by KAZIM ALI
Lalla, or Lal Ded, was a Kashmiri mystic who lived in the 14th century at the height of Kashmiri Shaivism. Though she was a Hindu and a yogi, even Shah Hamdan, the great Sufi teacher who was her contemporary, recognized her as a saint. The best translations are those of Indian poet Ranjit Hoskote, who worked directly from the old Kashmiri, and who incorporates into his translations the inconsistencies of style and diction and textual variations that stem from the nature of these ecstatic utterances passed down by word-of-mouth over the course of centuries before being assembled into a written canon.

like headless chickens

Published on Aug 20, 2015
Running around as we are – like headless chickens in a hundred different directions – this song stops us in our tracks. In his sharp and in-your-face manner, Kabir asks us the most basic question of all, which we persistently neglect to ask ourselves: Where have we come from? Where are we going? How could we have a satisfactory direction to our lives without grappling with this fundamental question? And how could we possibly grapple with this question without looking deeper into our own selves?

In 2003, this 15th century mystic poet from north India – Kabir – came alive in the unlikely context of north America, in a performance tour of the Malwi folk singer Prahlad Tipanya. This unusual journey was captured in the film – Ajab Shahar: Kabir in America – in which these songs of Kabir are interwoven with glimpses of the Indian folk artists discovering the culture of north America in myriad encounters. In a delightful moment at the end of this video, they discover the wonders of Acapella when they bump into students rehearsing in a corridor!

Prahlad Singh Tipanya is one of the most popular and respected folk singers of Kabir in the country. A school teacher by profession, Prahladji’s life took a deep and profound turn when he first heard the tambura – the five stringed folk instrument. That became the gateway for him into the world of Kabir, and since then he has been tirelessly sharing the power of Kabir with countless rural, urban and international audiences over the last 4 decades. His village Luniyakhedi in Madhya Pradesh has become a destination for many seekers of Kabir. Along with his son Ajay Tipanya, Prahladji organizes the vibrant Malwa Kabir Yatra every year, where many singers gather and journey along with seekers into the villages of the region in a travelling festival. Contact Prahlad Singh Tipanya at +91-94250-84096 or his senior troupe member and violin player Devnarayan Saroliya at +91-98064-40481.

The USA tour was organized by Dr. Linda Hess, one of the finest scholars and translators of Kabir into the English language, based in Stanford University. Write to her at lionda@standford.edu. The video – Ajab Shahar: Kabir in America – is one of several films on Kabir made by Shabnam Virmani, filmmaker, singer and director of the Kabir Project, located at the Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology in Bangalore, India. Write to her at thekabirproject@gmail.com. DVD of the film along with a book of song texts and translations is available at http://www.amazon.in/dp/B00PH5KFW6, Hindi version at http://www.amazon.in/dp/B00PH5N2E4.

This song was later edited into the film Chalo Hamara Des where the meanings and contexts of Kabir unfold on Prahladji’s own turf – in the villages of Malwa, Madhya Pradesh – where he has learnt, imbibed and re-expressed Kabir in deeply profound and inspiring ways over the last few decades. Saregama is pround to present "Thagni" a true Sufi Rock album from young talented artists "Abhas & Shreyas". The lyrics are based on works of Sant Kabir.
It is a contemporary representation of the classic work of Sant Kabir that will capture the hearts of all the Kabir fans & also appeal to the younger generation.

Watch this sufi rock album song ''Moko Kahaan Doondhe re Bande'' feat. Abhas & Shreyas

Are you looking for me?
Are you looking for me? I am in the next seat.
My shoulder is against yours.
you will not find me in the stupas, not in Indian shrine
rooms, nor in synagogues, nor in cathedrals:
not in masses, nor kirtans, not in legs winding
around your own neck, nor in eating nothing but vegetables.

When you really look for me, you will see me instantly –
you will find me in the tiniest house of time.

Kabir says: Student, tell me, what is God?
He is the breath inside the breath.

- Kabir

Meera

Nothing is really mine

Nothing is really mine except Krishna.
O my parents, I have searched the world
And found nothing worthy of love.
Hence I am a stranger amidst my kinfolk
And an exile from their company,
Since I seek the companionship of holy men;
There alone do I feel happy,
In the world I only weep.

I planted the creeper of love
And silently watered it with my tears;
Now it has grown and overspread my dwelling.
You offered me a cup of poison
Which I drank with joy.
Mira is absorbed in contemplation of Krishna,
She is with God and all is well!

Arvoles

Arvoles - canción sefardí antigua en Ladino - Judeo español, español judío.

Canta: Yehoram Gaon.

Letra:

Arvoles yoran por luvias
Y montanyas por aires
Ansi yoran los mis ojos
por ti, querida 'mante.

Toreno y digo, que va a ser de mi
en tierras ajenas yo me vo morir.

Blanca sos, blanca vistes,
Blanca la tu figura.
Blancas flores caen de ti,
de la tu hermozura.

Otra ortografía:

Árboles lloran por lluvias
y montañas por aires
así lloran los mis ojos por ti
querida amante

Toreno y digo, que va a ser de mí
en tierras ajenas yo me voy a morir.

Sefarad

Nesli - Parole Da Dedicarmi

Uploaded on Sep 25, 2009
TESTO:

dobbiamo dare, qualcosa in mezzo agli altri

e so che lassù qualcuno sta guardando proprio me

fuori c'è luce, poi buio, poi ancora luce
tutto quanto accade in modo rapido e veloce
tutto quanto accade in modo così naturale
a volte ci fa star bene, a volte ci fa star male
e vale la pena di evadere
senza avere regole come le favole
senza la paura di sentirsi inutile

È TÃO BOM SER PEQUENINO

Alfredo Marceneiro canta È Tão bom Ser Pequenino

Letra de: Carlos Conde
Música: Corrido ou Mouraria

É tão bom ser pequenino
Ter pai, ter mãe, ter avós
Ter esperança no destino
E ter quem goste de nós

A velhice traz revés
Mas depois da meninice
Há quem adore a velhice
Para ser menino outra vez
Ser menino que altivez
De optimismo e desatino
Ver tudo bom e divino
Tudo esperança, tudo fé
Enquanto a vida assim é
È tão bom ser pequenino

Ver tudo com alegria
Sem delongas sem demoras
Viver a vida numa hora
Eternidade num dia
Ter na mente a fantasia
Dum bem que ninguém supôs
Ter crença sonhar a sós
Com a grandeza deste mundo
E para bem mais profundo
Ter pai, ter mãe, ter avós

Ter muito enlevo a sonhar
Acordar e ter carinho
Ter este Mundo inteirinho
No brilho do nosso olhar
Viver alheio ao penar
Deste orbe torpe ferino
Julgar-se eterno menino
Supor-se eterna criança
E num destino sem esperança
Ter esperança no destino

Oh! Desventura, Oh! Saudade

Causas da minha inconstância

Dai-me pedaços de infância

Retalhos de mocidade

Dai-me a doce claridade

Roubando-a ao tempo atroz

Eu queria ter a minha voz

Para cantar o meu passado

E é tão bom cantar o fado

E ter quem goste de nós
